COVID-19 Information for our Patients to help keep you safe and healthy!

How we are operating:

There are patients who need care for non-COVID-19 related health conditions, we are scheduling appointments at one patient per hour.  All patients will be prescreened for possible COVID-19 signs and symptoms, or exposure to someone who may have (had) COVID-19/diagnosed with COVID-19.  Please do not arrive early, or late, for your appointment time.  With this patient flow, we can minimize or eliminate the need to have more than one patient in the office at a time. 


On days where there are no patients scheduled, the office will be closed.  Our telephone system will provide the appropriate announcement.  Under such circumstances, we are available via the patient portal, email.  Text messaging to 202-667-5041 should always be in reference to scheduling matters.

Rapid Antibody Testing for COVID-19


We have ordered Rapid COVID-19 antibody testing for our established patients.  As of this announcement, we expect shipment in early June.  The test we have selected has received FDA Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). 


Our CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1998) certified laboratory is a Moderate Complexity lab and is recertified every 2 years.  Many facilities are offering Rapid tests that have not received the FDA EUA approval.  By FDA rules, such tests can only be performed by High Complexity certified laboratories.  However, some manufacturers and vendors are selling testing kits to facilities that have only “Waived” or no CLIA certification -  these laboratories are marginally regulated or not regulated at all.  We are working with a reputable vendor requiring that we provide our CLIA certification.


Recently, FDA has determined that many of these tests may not have been through adequate validation to determine their accuracy and is now demanding that the manufacturers provide data to validate their tests or permission to sell their tests will be withdrawn.


Please understand that we cannot interpret the results of tests that we did not order via an outside laboratory or one that we did not perform ourselves. 


We anticipate this test and consultation with Dr. Ang to be on a self-pay basis for $250.00. 


About COVID-19 Antibody Tests


A positive serologic result indicates that an individual has likely produced an immune response to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. [IgM negative / IgG Positive]


A negative serologic result suggests that an individual has not developed detectable antibodies at the time of testing. [IgM negative / IgG Negative]


While contingent on a variety of factors, a negative IgG result could be due to testing too early in the course of infection, the absence of exposure to the virus, or the lack of adequate immune response, which can be due to conditions or treatments that suppress immune function.


It is unknown, at this time, as to whether or not having a positive IgG response confers immunity to re-infection, whether the antibody response will diminish or “disappear” over time and if so how long that time might be.  Thus, even with a positive IgG response, patients should remain vigilant and follow the public health guidelines to protect their health and the health of the community.
